Elements of Probability and Statistics
The first half of this 7.14-credit course covers some notions of
Descriptive Statistics. The second half lays the theoretical
foundations on which
Statistics for Economists will build.
Syllabus and bibliography
The syllabus and a collection of past exams can be obtained from
Lankopi, in the basement.
The course closely follows the textbook:
- Bárcena, M.J. et al.(2003) Elementos de Probabilidad y
Estadística Descriptiva, Servicio Editorial de la UPV/EHU,
Bilbao. ISBN 84-8373-545-8.
Class notes, data files, handouts, etc.
All course materials now are in
e-Gela,
except the slides file which
is too large and is placed here (but there is also a link in e-Gela).
Exams with answers
See in e-Gela. You also have exams of the last five years in Lankopi
(only in Spanish).
Software
The students
are responsible to know how to draw simple
graphs, make straightforward calculations, link indices, etc.,
with the only help of a pocket calculator. However, in order
to streamline presentations, and to introduce students to the use of
tools that will be useful to them, occasional use will be made in
the classroom of
R
(see also
the page about R
in the departamental server).
